The purpose of this page is to document scriptural references indicating the importance of knowing and using the true name of our Heavenly Father and HIS son the Messiah.

Many people have asked, "Why is the name so important?  HE knows who we are talking about.

To statements such as these I would ask, "If you truly love someone with all your heart, and all your soul and all your might, wouldn't you at least know their name?"

Calling our Heavenly Father, the creator of all things, God is like calling your wife, Woman or your husband Man.  It's simply a word describing their genre.

Calling our Heavenly Father, the creator of all things, LORD is like calling your wife, Misses or your husband Mister.  They are simply words describing their title.

While both of these descriptors are grammatically correct, do either of them convey love or adoration?

Greek writer Celsus circa 177CE...........

"But of course they think otherwise: they assume that by pronouncing the name of their teacher they are armored against the powers of the earth and air. And they are quite insistent on the efficacy of the name as a means of protection: pronounce it improperly, they say, and it is ineffective. Greek and Latin will not do; it must be said in a barbarian tongue(Hebrew) to work. Silly as they are, one finds them standing next to a a statue of Zeus or Apollo or some other god, and shouting, "see here: I blaspheme it and strike it, but it is powerless against me for I am a Chreystian." Celsus on the True Doctrine, A Discourse Against the Christians, R. Joseph Hoffman (page118)

This is a historical record showing that at least up until the late 2nd century CE the followers of the Branch, the Mashiyach, we committed to calling Him by His Hebrew name Yod, Hey, Waw, Shin, Waw, Ayin..YHWShWA...Yahuwshuwa.

The true followers will worship the Father in Ruwach and Truth!

43 'I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive. '  (KJV)

Does this mean that the father's name will be contained in the Son's name?

Does this also show the apostacy of using the Greek name Jesus for the Messiah?

12 'Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.' (KJV)

11 'Then take silver and gold, and make crowns, and set them upon the head of Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest;' (KJV)

Ezra 3:2
Ezra 3:8-9

Why is Joshua's name spelled different in the book of Ezra?

Joshua/Yahusha - YHWH is salvation; Yahua saves; or Yhowshua {yeh-ho-shoo'-ah}; from 'Yhovah' (3068) and 'yasha`' (3467); Jehovah-saved; Jehoshua (i.e. Joshua), the Jewish leader:--Jehoshua, Jehoshuah, Joshua.

Josedech/Yehotsadaq - YAH is just; from 'Yhovah' (3068) and 'tsadaq' (6663); Jehovah-righted; Jehotsadak, an Israelite

Keter (H) - Crown

Kohen HaGadol (H) - The High Priest

12 'And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD:' (KJV)

John 1:45

This is prophesing that the Messiah's name will be the same as Joshua's

kal (H) - Temple, Or Set-Apart Place In Front Of The Holy Of Holies

Tzevaot (H) - Hosts, Or Armies

Tsemach (H) - Branch

2 'Then stood up Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and his brethren the priests, and Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and his brethren, and builded the altar of the God of Israel, to offer burnt offerings thereon, as it is written in the law of Moses the man of God.' (KJV)

Zechariah 6:11-12

Why is Jeshua's name spelled different in the book of Zechariah?

8 'Now in the second year of their coming unto the house of God at Jerusalem, in the second month, began Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua the son of Jozadak, and the remnant of their brethren the priests and the Levites, and all they that were come out of the captivity unto Jerusalem; and appointed the Levites, from twenty years old and upward, to set forward the work of the house of the LORD.' (KJV)

Zechariah 6:11-12

Why is Jeshua's name spelled different in the book of Zechariah?

9 'Then stood Jeshua with his sons and his brethren, Kadmiel and his sons, the sons of Judah, together, to set forward the workmen in the house of God: the sons of Henadad, with their sons and their brethren the Levites.' (KJV)

Zechariah 6:11-12

Why is Jeshua's name spelled different in the book of Zechariah?

43 'I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive. '  (KJV)

Does this mean that the father's name will be contained in the Son's name?

Does this also show the apostacy of using the Greek name Jesus for the Messiah?

12 'Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.' (KJV)

45 'Which also our fathers that came after brought in with Jesus into the possession of the Gentiles, whom God drave out before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David;' (KJV)

If this Jesus is really Joshua, why did the Messiah's name get translated differently?

"12 A land which the LORD thy God careth for: the eyes of the LORD thy God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year even unto the end of the year."  (KJV)

"But at the place which the LORD thy God shall choose to place his name in, there thou shalt sacrifice the passover at even, at the going down of the sun, at the season that thou camest forth out of Egypt."  (KJV)

"13 He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever."  (KJV)

"That the LORD may continue his word which he spake concerning me, saying, If thy children take heed to their way, to walk before me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul, there shall not fail thee (said he) a man on the throne of Israel."  (KJV)

"29 That thine eyes may be open toward this house night and day, even toward the place of which thou hast said, My name shall be there: that thou mayest hearken unto the prayer which thy servant shall make toward this place."  (KJV)

"And the LORD said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, that thou hast made before me: I have hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever; and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually. "  (KJV)

"And he built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD said, In Jerusalem will I put my name."  (KJV)

"And he set a graven image of the grove that he had made in the house, of which the LORD said to David, and to Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever:"  (KJV)

"34 But they set their abominations in the house, which is called by my name, to defile it."  (KJV)

I have started this list of names to demonstrate several points.  First I'd like to show how common the name Yah, Yahu and Yahua are in the Hebrew culture.  Second, I would like to point out an oddity that exists between the translation of a name and the transliteration of the name.

It seems more than a little strange to me that the Hebrew letters YHW almost universally are transliterated as YAH, YAH-OO and YAH-OO-AH but when they are translated (by the same source) the translation becomes JAH, JEH or JOH.
