James Chapter 1

James 1:1

1James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.(KJV)

James/Ya'aqob is writing to the diaspora, the dispersed tribes of Israel, NOT to the Gentiles.  (1 Peter 1:1)

James 1:19

'19Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:' (KJV)

I need to take this one to heart.

James 1:22

'22But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.' (KJV)

Be doers of the Word.

James 1:25

'25But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.' (KJV)

Doers of the Word will be blessed.

James 1:26

"26If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain." (KJV)

Translation Difference

"If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one’s religion is worthless." (The ISR Scriptures)

"If any man among you seems to be an eved of the Master, and controls not his tongue, he deceives his own lev, and this man’s service is in vain. 5449" (The Restoration Scriptures)

Silence is golden.

James Chapter 2

James 2:14

"14What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?" (KJV)

Faith alone does not save.

James 2:16

"16And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?" (KJV)

Lip service alone does no good.

James 2:17

"17Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone." (KJV)

If faith has no works it is dead faith.

James 2:18

"18Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works." (KJV)

You demonstate your faith by your works.  If you have no works, you have no faith.

James 2:19

"19Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble." (KJV)

Mere belief is not enough.  Demons have belief but they will not be saved.

James 2:20

"20But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?" (KJV)

Dead faith is no good.

James 2:24

"24Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only." (KJV)

Works prove you have faith.  Faith alone is NOT enough.

James 2:25

"25Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?" (KJV)

Even a harlot was justified.

James Chapter 3

James 3:6

"6And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell." (KJV)

The 'course of nature' could also be 'cycle of life'.

James Chapter 4

James 4:12

"12There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?" (KJV)

If there is only one lawgiver, that is able to save and destroy, this verse is saying that YAHUSHUA is the one that gave the Torah at Mount Sinai.

James Chapter 5

James 5:4

4Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.(KJV)

'Confess your faults one to another, and make tefillah one for another, that you may be healed. The effectual fervent tefillot of a tzadik man is powerful accomplishing much.' (The Restoration Scriptures)

James 5:17

17Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.(KJV)

20Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.(KJV)

General Notes On The Book Of James:

The book of James/Ya'aqob should really be titled, the book of Jacob/Ya'aqob.  Rumor has it that King James wanted one of the books of the Scripture to bear his name so he changed the name.

The Strong's Concordance lends validity to this statement but I want to find the reference for this.

James/Ya'aqob - a form of Jacob; (2385) - the same as Iakob 2384 Graecized; Jacobus, the name of three Israelites; (2384) - of Hebrew origin (Ya`aqob 3290); Jacob (i.e. Ja`akob), the progenitor of the Israelites:--also an Israelite:--Jacob.; (3290) - from '`aqab' (6117); heel-catcher (i.e. supplanter); Jaakob, the Israelitish patriarch:--Jacob.; (6117) - a primitive root; properly, to swell out or up; used only as denominative from '`aqeb' (6119), to seize by the heel; figuratively, to circumvent (as if tripping up the heels); also to restrain (as if holding by the heel):--take by the heel, stay, supplant, X utterly.; (6119) - or (feminine) hiqqbah {ik-keb-aw'}; from '`aqab' (6117); a heel (as protuberant); hence, a track; figuratively, the rear (of an army):--heel, (horse-)hoof, last, lier in wait (by mistake for '`aqeb' (6120)), (foot- )step.
